Hiroshima Animation Season honors Iranian film center

The Hiroshima Animation Season in Japan honors Iran’s Documentary & Experimental Film Center.

The first edition of the Hiroshima Animation Season in Japan has honored Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC).

The Japanese animation festival paid tribute to the DEFC and presented a Golden Carpstar to the center for its continuous support of animation expression in Iran for over 30 years.

The Golden Carpstar is presented to an individual, group, or organization that has made a significant contribution to the field of animation in the Pan-Pacific and Asia region in the two-year period from 2020 to 2021, based on more than 60 pages of research compiled by more than 20 national and international experts.

The DEFC was established in 1984 as the Center for Experimental and Semi-Professional Cinema.

Initially, the center was responsible for making 16mm, a reference point for young filmmakers to enter film directing.

The DEFC has produced more than 1000 professional documentaries, movies, and animations.

It is the pioneering Iranian entity that produces documentaries, animations, experimental and feature films as one of the most notable production companies in the Middle East.

The DEFC officials organized one of the most influential Iranian film festivals called ‘Cinema Verite’ in 2007.

The publication of two quarterly magazines, ‘Cinema Verite’ and ‘Cinema Animation’, holding weekly screenings, organizing workshops related to documentary cinema and animation, etc., are other activities of the DEFC.
